PROFILE

Alex Tart Architects was born out of a desire to design spaces and buildings that bring out the best of classical and contemporary design. The firm has grown into an experienced and passionate architectural practice with London and Bath offices, specialising in high quality residential architecture.

The practice has worked with clients across the country. Attention to detail and a proven record of navigating complex project parameters has seen us help our clients to fulfil their project goals and has seen us deliver projects ranging from new classical country houses to basement extensions and refurbishments in central London.

VISION

The ethos of delivering beautiful, high quality classical and contemporary residential designs defines the practice and we strongly believe there is place for both styles. This is reflected in our designs, where the two feature seamlessly alongside or independently from one another, as dictated by the context of the project and the client’s brief. The rare combination of this experience in both high quality classical design and contemporary design has formed the basis upon which Alex Tart Architects was founded.

DESIGN PROCESS

The beginning of each and every project starts with understanding the aims and ambitions of our clients. Bringing this through to their homes to allow the spaces created to reflect the ways in which they live their lives.

We approach the design through iterations of sketches, drawings and visualisations that bring the designs off of the page for our clients. We approach the design simultaneously from the inside and outside of our client homes, ensuring the interior design of the spaces is developed and articulated in the building’s exterior.

TEAM

As a specialist design studio, the core of the practice is in our talented and experienced team of architects. Through internal reviews our clients receive the knowledge our full team on all our projects as well as a high level of director level input.

Director

ALEX TART

Alex founded the company in 2014 off the back of a career rooted in pushing the boundaries of residential design for private family homes. Working across both traditional country estates and prime London residences, his wealth of experience allowed him to work closely alongside clients to further a vision. He seamlessly blends traditional and contemporary design styles, bringing them together harmoniously.

Since the company’s inception Alex has maintained his passion for design and brings his experience and personal design touch to each and every project that the company undertakes. Alex approaches design from the inside of a building outwards to capture the clients’ interior ambitions and tying them together with striking exteriors, creating bespoke and thoughtfully crafted homes.

With more than a decade of experience in private residential projects, he is adept at helping clients to explore the possibilities for their projects and has overseen the construction of a number of projects within the practice.

Tobias has a very strong technical background. Underpinned by knowledge from his Masters in Sustainable Architecture and Design, he has developed a keen interest in the sustainable design of heritage buildings. Coupled with his creative thinking, this often brings new and emerging materials into the designs to improve the performance of our clients’ homes.

Architectural Assistant

FARAH BADARUDDIN

Farah works across many projects in the office, assisting the project architects from initial schematic proposals to construction information. When she joined the firm in 2022, Farah had already been practicing as a fully qualified architect in Malaysia for several years, after finishing her studies at the Bartlett in London.

Farah employs a range of digital software and 3d modelling techniques to bring concept proposals off of the page. These models are integral design tools, allowing the team to discuss the unique benefits of layouts and refine the interior schematic proposals. In addition, by flying clients through the digital models of their homes, we have found it to help our clients to clearly visualise the space when making decisions.
