Project summary: The full refurbishment of a London townhouse in addition to a two-storey side extension, single storey rear extension to the lower ground floor & roof extension.

The property in Belsize Park is a semi-detached paired villa in the Italianate style dating back to the 1860s. Alex Tart Architects were tasked with sensitively modernising the family home. The extensions have been approached with a highly contemporary aesthetic to contrast with the retained period features and style of the upper floors.

The planning process within the context of Camden’s conservation area required sensitive dialogue with the council to navigate the property’s conservation requirements. We worked closely alongside the clients and interior designers to create a house that balances fun and sophistication along with traditional and modern architectural detailing.
