House on Wandsworth Common

Project summary:

Planning consent was granted for two-storey full width rear extensions, basement enlargement and internal refurbishment of a large Victorian semi-detached residence within the Wandsworth Common Conservation Area, Bolingbroke Grove sub-area.

The front elevation retains its original Victorian bay windows and period detailing, preserving the property’s heritage character, while the rear has been transformed with a contemporary, light-filled extension that blends between traditional and modern architectural language.

The two-storey rear extension uses matching brickwork, tripartite sash windows, and French doors to complement the historic character of the house. While the single-storey extension features a rendered wall with full-height Crittall-style glazing and rooflights, creating a contemporary contrast that harmonises with the overall architecture.

Lowered floor levels provide a direct connection to the garden, improving indoor-outdoor flow, while increased ceiling heights enhance the sense of space and natural light in the kitchen. The garden has been sensitively designed to harmonise with the architecture, creating an inviting outdoor space that flows seamlessly from the interior.

Internally, restored period details sit alongside contemporary interventions, bespoke joinery, and a refined material palette, resulting in a cohesive and elegant home.

Status: Completed.
